Ball at the Opera House with a glass of champagne - on the eve of the New Year 2016
A festive Christmas-New Year show-performance "Ball at the Opera" is prepared by the staff of the Stara Zagora Opera for its fans and for all those who will choose the hall of the Opera to give themselves beautiful musical moments on the eve of the New Year 2016. The performance on 30 December at 19.00 recreates the celebration of Christmas and New Year holidays around the world in different eras. A glass to remember and sparkling champagne will complete the festive mood, the organisers promise.
The production "Ball at the Opera" includes arias, duets and overtures from favourite opera and operetta titles, as well as Christmas carols united in a plot, a story and an idea. Denis Ivanov is the author of the overall concept of the show, stage arrangement and costumes. The conductor will be Zdravko Lazarov.
In the performance take part the soloists of the Stara Zagora Opera Ophelia Hristova, Ivaylo Djurov, Elena Barumova, Gergana Rusekova, Desi Stefanova, Yanitsa Nesheva, Nina Dimitrova, Teodor Petkov, Kamelia Stoycheva, Emilia Djurova, Neli Necheva, Hristo Ivanov, choir and orchestra of the State Opera - Stara Zagora, choir "Petko Stainov" at the "Iskra" Community Centre /Kazanlak/, Alexander Baranov /soloistof the State Opera - Ruse/, Lora, Zara and Theodore from the "Children's Eurovision" and students from the vocal, acting and instrumental classes of the "Kristina Morfova" National School of Music and Performing Arts. Choir conductor Mladen Stanev, choreography Alida Boneva.
The different characters, beloved and familiar at first sight, come to life in a new guise and together create a new story, a "new opera", in which all the actors have a happy destiny and a future full of hope for happiness and joy, which are somewhere out there in the New Year. Audiences will recognise their favourite characters Mimi, Rudolfo and Musetta from Puccini's opera La bohème, and will immerse themselves in a similar story but with a happy ending with the song of the lark from Kalman's The Pansy of Montmartre, the splendour of royalty awaits them in the gardens of King Philip II's palace with the performance of the Ladies' Chorus and Princess Eboli's aria from Verdi's opera Don Carlos. The beauty of Puccini's music and the theme of love will command attention with Magda's song from Puccini's opera The Nutcracker. Bizet's music will bring excitement and festivity with Escamillo's couplets from the opera Carmen, followed by the Marquis del Poggio's aria from Verdi's A King for a Day, Soo Chong's song from Lehar's The Land of Smiles, songs from the films Springtime and Bumblebee, carols, and attractive instrumental masterpieces. And of course - festive cheers from Verdi's opera Ernani and Strauss's operetta The Bat...
The concert program is presented by Neli Necheva and Hristo Ivanov with a sense of humor, selected interesting stories about the Christmas and New Year holidays, curious facts from the history of the Stara Zagora Opera.
The festive walk through the centuries starts from the foyers of the State Opera-Stara Zagora, then - on the stage different pictures change. The stage action takes place on three stages - in a modest home on Christmas Eve, in the town square on Christmas night, in a refined home on New Year's Eve and again on the square to welcome the New Year. And it ends in the lobbies with a festive New Year's Eve cheer...
