State Opera Stara Zagora with two awards "Crystal Lyra" of the Union of Bulgarian Music and Dance Artists and Cantus Firmus
For the 23rd time the Union of Bulgarian Music and Dance Artists and Cantus Firmus awarded the excellence in music and dance art in Bulgaria. The award ceremony "Crystal Lyra" took place traditionally on November 1 - the Day of the National Awakeners in the Sofia Opera and Ballet.
State Opera Stara Zagora received the prestigious award in two categories:
In the category "Opera and Operetta" the soloist of the Stara Zagora Opera - mezzo-soprano Petya Petrova received the "Crystal Lyre" for the role of Isabella from the opera "The Italian in Algiers" by Rossini, which premiered on March 9 this year in Stara Zagora.
"This year's Crystal Lyra winner is a proven professional and an outstanding artist and that is Petya Petrova" - these were the words of Momchil Milanov, Deputy Chairman of the SBMTD, before personally presenting the award to the singer.
"I would like to thank first of all the Union of Bulgarian Musical Dance Artists and to share that this award is not only for me, but also for the theatre of the State Opera-Stara Zagora! And to thank its management in the person of Veselina Katsarova, Ognyan Draganov and Ivaylo Krinchev who made possible this production of "The Italian in Algiers" in which I was able to unleash my creative potential. Last but not least, I would like to thank my teachers, the great opera singer Alexandrina Milcheva and the soloist of the National Opera Bayasgalan Dashnyam."
In the category "Ballet Art" - Collective Award, the Stara Zagora State Opera Ballet was awarded the Crystal Lyre for its performance of the ballet Don Quixote, which premiered on 27 November 2018. The award was received by the director of the State Opera-Stara Zagora Ognyan Draganov and the artistic director of the ballet Sylvia Tomova.
"I especially congratulate Sylvia Tomova for the fact that she has managed to create a company that can actually cope with such difficult and complex material and achieve such artistic success! I also congratulate the director Ognyan Draganov, without whose help and support this troupe could not have been!"
"Thank you to those who support us - both the Municipality of Stara Zagora and the Ministry of Culture. We will persevere as we continue to develop chamber opera in Stara Zagora. Ballet is a fragile art that needs a lot of support. I thank the Union of Music and Dance Artists for this high award, for this high appreciation of our work!" - said Ognyan Draganov at the end of his address.
"70 years of Ballet - Stara Zagora, the second company that was created after the Sofia Ballet, is not small at all, looking at most European countries as history. I am delighted and happy that Mr. Ognyan Draganov invited me to work with him. I would like to thank the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Stara Zagora for the fact that we have managed to create this wonderful troupe in such a short time. I would like to thank Arshak Galumyan - the choreographer of the ballet Don Quixote - a soloist of the Stade Ballet-Berlin, his wonderful assistant Krasina Pavlova - also a soloist of the Stade Ballet-Berlin and my student, Salvatore Russo for the wonderful costumes and sets. And last but not least - most of all thanks to our wonderful ballet dancers. They are wonderful, young, talented, from all over the world... And on this occasion I invite you on December 17 in Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture to see the ballet "Don Quixote" performed by the Stara Zagora Ballet together with the extraordinary stars Yana Salenko and Marian Walter. Thank you to everyone who helps us!" said Silvia Tomova from the stage.
Congratulations!
