Music Without Borders - The soloists of the State Opera Stara Zagora present

I Hate Music ... but I Like to Sing

The second concert of the Music Without Borders series will be presented on 20 March at 7 p.m. on the stage of the Stara Zagora Opera House. I Hate Music...but I Like to Sing marks the beginning of a series of special multi-genre chamber concerts that will present the audience with surprisingly pleasant encounters with unfamiliar works from the world's musical treasury, interpreted by the star soloists of the Stara Zagora State Opera House.

The concert I Hate Music ... but I Like to Sing is the idea of the soloist of the Stara Zagora Opera Rusalina Mochukova, who has toured with great success with a similar chamber programme in Europe and the USA, and now together with pianist Denitsa Petrova and actress Svetla Todorova will be presented for the first time to the Bulgarian audience. Along with Pergolesi, Giordani, Hahn, Obradors, Strauss, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and others, the programme also features composer Parashkev Hadjiev with his song "Love". The title of the concert is borrowed from Leonard Bernstein's song I Hate Music ... but I Like to Sing, which is part of his cycle of five songs for children and unites the overall concept of the concert.

"It's always a great celebration for me when I have the opportunity to perform chamber music. It gives me a different feeling of making music, of greater closeness and empathy of the music with the audience. All this kind of intimacy between the performers and the audience brings an extraordinary harmony and opens the senses.

Together with actress Svetla Todorova and pianist Denitsa Petrova, we created the project "I hate music...but I like to sing", which celebrates this tumultuous relationship with music, this complex and daunting, often exasperating passion that drives all musicians and artists to strive for perfection. In five different languages: Russian, French, English, Italian and Spanish, we will hear some of the most expressive songs by Reinaldo Hahn, Frernando Obradors, Richard Strauss, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Leonard Bernstein and others. Weaving in Shakespeare's sonnets, Pushkin's and Leontyev's poems, we will present the theme of love in all its varieties.

I hate music ... but I Like to sing reminds both us and our audience how much fun it can be to do what we musicians love to do," says Rusalina Mochukova.

All anti-epidemic measures will be observed during the concert!
