"Otello is not performed very often - because it requires not only excellent singers because of the difficulty of the vocal tasks, but also singer-actors. Pure love, envy, jealousy find here perhaps some of their most vivid depictions through the means of operatic art. Bulgaria is proud that among the best interpreters of Desdemona, Otello and Iago in the 20th century we find not a few Bulgarian names on the most famous stages. They will be joined by the world-renowned Bulgarian tenor Kamen Chanev, who will make his debut in the role of Otello in the performance of the Stara Zagora Opera. Tanya Ivanova will partner him in the role of Desdemona, and the audience will see Ivan Kabamitov as Iago. The cast also includes Ivaylo Yovchev, Stoyan Boyukliev, Alexander Marulev, Evgeny Arabadzhiev, Hristo Ivanov, Daniela Nineva and others, the orchestra and choir of the State Opera-Stara Zagora, representatives of the Pre-Bulgarian Survival School "Baga-Tur". The performance will be conducted by the chief conductor of the Stara Zagora Opera Ivaylo Krinchev. The production is directed by Petko Bonev, choirmaster Mladen Stanev, choreography by Romina Slavova. The stage design and costumes of Otello are the latest joint work of the artists Tsvetanka Petkova-Stoynova and Boris Stoynov, who are permanently connected with the Stara Zagora Opera and have left a bright mark in the image of contemporary Bulgarian opera and ballet art.
