Today the Mayor of Stara Zagora Municipality Zhivko Todorov visited the Stara Zagora Opera, accompanied by Eng. Yancho Kaloyanov-Deputy Mayor and Milena Zheleva, Chairperson of the Culture Committee of the Stara Zagora Municipal Council. In the presence of the hosts: the director Ognyan Draganov, the chief conductor Ivaylo Krinchev, the deputy director Slavcho Nikolov and the artistic director of the ballet Sylvia Tomova, Zhivko Todorov met with the artists of the ballet troupe of the State Opera Stara Zagora. In the ballet hall the mayor was welcomed by the young artists from 13 countries from all over the world and personally met each of them. Zhivko Todorov congratulated them for the great success of the ballet company and for the beauty they create. The prima ballerina of the Stara Zagora Opera Ballet, Anelia Dimitrova, on behalf of her colleagues, expressed her gratitude for the visit and for the conditions in the opera house that the Municipality of Stara Zagora provides for the young multinational troupe. It should be recalled that on the occasion of the Stara Zagora City Day - 5 October 2017, the completely renovated ballet rehearsal hall was opened, the renovation of which was carried out by the Stara Zagora Municipality.
"New artists who want to be accepted by competition are constantly coming to us. We have offers to work with the company from leading choreographers and theatres. And this is because we have achieved successes that are talked about in ballet circles all over the world," said the artistic director of the Opera Ballet, Sylvia Tomova. Only on the first day of July, two more ballet dancers from Italy joined the company and the total number of the company is now 52.
During the tour of the Opera House the most important technical problems were identified, the solution of which cannot be delayed. The floor of the ballet hall needs to be repaired and the roof of the Opera House, recently compromised by natural rains, needs to be repaired.
The possibilities of renovating several rooms on the ground floor to be converted into dressing rooms and others for new dressing rooms for the growing ballet company were discussed. Special emphasis was placed on the purchase of a ballet floor for the stage, which is a serious but much needed investment.
The Investor Control Unit in the Municipality will check on all the problems commented and propose a renovation plan.
In the talks today, Milena Zheleva, Chairperson of the Culture Committee in the Municipal Council-Stara Zagora informed that the amount for the repair of the damaged rotating stage of the Opera House has been voted, which will be carried out by the German company that built the modern facility.
