Music Without Borders - The soloists of the State Opera Stara Zagora present
Les Chemins de L'amour / The Ways of Love
Let's talk about LOVE with Daniela Dyakova, Denitsa Petrova, Ana Mihaylova and the poet Yordan Peev
The third concert of the "Music without Borders" series will be presented on 8 May at 19.00 on the stage of the Stara Zagora Opera House. The concert Les Chemins de L'amour / The Roads of Love - based on an idea by the soloist of the Stara Zagora State Opera, mezzo-soprano Daniela Dyakova, will take fans of the beautiful song form through different musical styles and eras. The unifying line in the concert programme is the theme of love in its various shades and dimensions. The title of the concert, The Ways of Love, is taken from Poulenc's song of the same name, written by the composer in 1940 to a text by Jean Anouilh and dedicated to the comic actress and singer Yvonne Printeps, who first performed it at the premiere of the play Leocadia and, following its success, recorded it.
In the concert Paths of Love, the usual configuration for chamber concerts - voice and piano - is joined by the cello, whose timbre, according to specialists, most closely resembles the human voice. The mezzo-soprano Daniela Dyakova, the pianist Denitsa Petrova and Ana Mihailova - cello, will perform songs by Johannes Brahms, Georges Bizet, Jules Massenet, Gabriel Fauré, Reinald Haan, Richard Strauss, Francis Poulenc, Kurt Weill and others. The poet Yordan Peev will complete the romantic musical picture with his selected verses of love lyrics.
Daniela Dyakova is one of the most prominent and preferred opera mezzo-sopranos in Bulgaria with a rich operatic and cantata-oratorio repertoire. The singer admits that so far in her intense career she has never had time to turn to chamber music, which has always attracted her and which she considers a real springboard in the vocal growth of every opera artist:
"This time, however, my musical compass is taking me in a completely different direction, namely into the field of chamber song! In view of our current surroundings of a different life, the idea was actually born to recreate a more special, adaptable and original concert-recital of selected boutique songs from French and German love lyrics. These are jewel-like and romantic masterpieces from the song treasury of some of the greatest composers of this music. The repertoire I have selected is a real gem for me, as the music, lyrics and messages of the songs are so beautiful, exquisite and imbued with love that you can't help but feel it from the first chord. The composers of these songs are true masters of the musical pen, I feel their soulfulness, emotion and lyricism very close to my own and that is exactly the reason I turned to their works. I think that in these difficult times, our audience needs this kind of musical journeys ..."
For pianist Denitsa Petrova, chamber music is a magical niche in which all performers stand on equal footing. "These chamber songs for voice and piano require uncompromising professionalism, a high class of performance, both in the singer and the instrumentalist.
The composers have portrayed each movement, each picture, each portrait or landscape with a precise, technical, music-like manner:
- a specific rhythmic;
- nuances through dynamics;
- big leaps;
- accents in chords;
- a distinct melodic line that alternates between voice and piano.
The deep detail, the use of themes from different folklores, the complex and highly emphasized method of composing each one, the purity of the song structure that instantly brings us into that very romantic feeling of love is a great pleasure for me as a performer and pianist.
I would add that we musicians-singers and instrumentalists, convey to the audience, through our interpretation, prism, outlook, feeling, manner of performance and musicianship, intelligence and talent.
The paths of Love, vast, invisible and touching everyone who wishes to feel and preserve them in their soul" - says Denitsa Petrova excitedly.
