The operetta "The Queen of Chardache" - a timeless classic
The glamorous operetta "The Queen of Chardash" is back on the stage of the State Opera - Stara Zagora on 7 February at 7 pm. This operetta is truly a "wonderful dream". Everyone should hear and see it at least once in their life!
This latest realization of the operetta "The Queen of Chardache" by Imre Kalman is directed by Nikolai Aprilov /his adaptation of the libretto by Istvan Bekefi and Desho Keller/, set and costume design by Radina Bliznakova and Lilia Babunova , choreography by Tatyana Yaneva. In the main role of Silvia Varescu you will see Elena Petrova - the charming young soloist of the State Opera Stara Zagora, in the role of Edvin is Nikolai Motov, Count Bonny is Velin Mikhailov, also participate Diana Naydenova, Nikolai Aprilov, Evgeny Arabadzhiev, Simeon Simeonov, Ignat Zhelev, Lyubomir Petkov, orchestra, choir and ballet of the State Opera Stara Zagora.
When we are sad, no matter if it is from the time or the years that are passing, we want joy - an explosion of music, dance and beauty. And when we feel good - we want to celebrate - with songs, wine and beautiful women! All of this can be found in Imre Kalman's timeless work, The Queen of Chardache. And more - grace, finesse, elegance. This is the time of long dresses, suave cavaliers, gentle whispers and deep passion. This is not our time. The year is 1912. The place is Budapest and Vienna. Silva Varescu, Edwin, Contessa Stassi, Prince Leopold, General Ronsdorff, Cecilia (of course!), as well as Count Bonnie and Feri Bacci - will draw you into a seemingly very familiar story. A young man is madly in love with a variety actress. His mother, who was also one, doesn't want this love to last and does everything she can to keep them apart. From all this swirl hurricanes of emotions, doubts and passions until in an instant all barriers to their happiness fall.
The premiere of The Queen of Chardache took place on 17 November 1915 at the Johann Strauss-Theater in Vienna. The success was triumphant! Today, it is hard to imagine the reaction of the audience when this unique waterfall of schlagers was suddenly poured upon them! Despite the unflattering appraisals of the Viennese press, which was outraged by the scathing satire against the aristocracy, the show did not leave the stage for two years. Every night, a crowd of Viennese stormed the theatre's box office, and it was as if Silva and Edwin's impassioned love duets drowned out the thunderous thunder of the First World War.
The first production of The Queen of Chardash in Stara Zagora was on 6 March 1958 with conductor Ilia Iliev and director Georgi Petrov. The next premiere was 30 years later - on 16 June 1988 again with director Georgi Petrov and conductor Krasimir Kashev. In 2006 on 16 April was the penultimate premiere. Director is Boyko Iliev, conductor Krassimir Kashev, choreographer Alida Boneva , choirmasters Bogdana Popova and Mladen Stanev.
This operetta is truly a "wonderful dream". Everyone should hear and see it at least once in their life. A dance for the spirit and a fairyland of feelings. The incredible vocal performances, the beautiful set and the brilliant orchestra present a timeless and vibrant Queen of Chardash!
