As part of the Festival of Opera and Ballet Art, a presentation of the "Journal of Dance" is organized on December 5 at 6 pm in the Opera House lobby. Come!
This year the only "Dance Magazine" of its kind in Bulgaria, entirely dedicated to dance in all its varieties, has appeared. It is published once a year and in 120 full-color pages presents processes, personalities, events and ideas from classical to contemporary dance and dance culture in Bulgarian and international context. The journal also looks at the history of dance, and for the first time in Bulgarian, translations of significant theoretical texts are published.
The leading theme of the first issue of the Journal of Dance is "Beauty in Dance". A special essay is devoted to it, offering a kind of history of notions of beauty in this art. Separately, twelve prominent contemporary Bulgarian and international choreographers and artists, together with a philosopher, answer the question, "What is beauty in dance for you?". The number thus allows us to trace what lies behind the ideal of beauty in dance and how it changes over time.
There are successful examples of such specialized publications in many countries. One of the most emblematic among them is that of the German magazine "tanz", whose editor-in-chief, Arnd Wessemann, is also among the contributors to issue 1 of the Journal of Dance. An independent magazine devoted to dance existed in Bulgaria for a while in the 1920s, and appeared briefly in the 1990s, but such a medium has been absent until now. Therefore, the team of the International Festival for Contemporary Dance and Performance "Antistatic" - Iva Sveshtarova, Vili Prager, Stefan A. Shterev, as well as the theatre scholar Angelina Georgieva (editor-in-chief) - have taken on the task of creating a contemporary, attractive and aimed at different readers publication that will introduce them to different ideas in the rich world of dance and the diversity of events.
"Dance Magazine was initiated by Antistatic Festival within the European project Life Long Burning, funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the EU. It is implemented by Brain Stor Project and Nomad Dance Academy Bulgaria with the financial support of the Culture Programme of Sofia Municipality, National Culture Fund and the sponsorship of Grishko Shop.
