Rossini and "150 Years After Rossini"

In 2018, the entire musical world celebrates 150 years since the death of the great composer Gioachino Rossini. State Opera Stara Zagora joins the celebrations with a special concert entitled "150 Years After Rossini" on 7 December at 7 pm, included in the programme of the 49th edition of the Festival of Opera and Ballet Art.

And one more thing! At the idea of the festival organizers - in particular its administrative secretary Lyubomir Kutin, the presence of the genius Rossini is enhanced by an original proposal for cooperation with the restaurants of the hotel complexes "Forum", "Unikito" and Park-hotel Stara Zagora. According to the project of the photographer Rad Dimitrov, human-sized figures of Giolino Rossini have been made and placed in the restaurants and lobbies of the State Opera-Stara Zagora. The chefs in these establishments have created and offer their guests a selected menu that includes several of Rossini's most famous recipes. In addition to being a genius composer, Rossini was an extremely famous culinarian. There are dozens of classic Italian recipes written by him. The famous composer Rossini once confessed that he had only cried twice in his life: when he first heard Paganini's music and when he dropped the plate of pasta he had prepared himself.

In the intermission of the performance "The Barber of Seville" /4 December/ in the foyer of the Opera a special musical program was presented - a flashmob for all spectators with a wink to the culinary glory of Gioachino Rossini. A comic fragment from the musical "Hobby" by Rolf Zimmermann was performed. In this excerpt, three men gather secretly from their wives to cook the famous dish "Tournedo Rossini". The roles of Otto, Willy and Paul are performed by the soloists of the State Opera-Stara Zagora Georgi Dinev, Ignat Zhelev and Marin Rusinov. On the piano - Denitsa Petrova. The attractive number will continue to entertain the audience during the intermissions of the performances of the opera "Gioconda" /on 6 December/ and the ballet "The Nutcracker" /on 8 December/.

For the concert "150 Years of Rossini" on December 7 at 7 pm at the Opera House.

Conductor of the concert is Ivaylo Krinchev. The magnificent soloists of the State Opera-Stara Zagora Emilia Ivanova, Petya Petrova, Ivaylo Mikhailov, Valery Turmanov, Ivaylo Jurov, the choir and the orchestra of the theatre will participate. The concert programme will present overtures, arias, ensembles and choruses from his vast oeuvre, which are relatively unknown to the Bulgarian stage.

The special guest of the concert is the young and talented opera singer Mila Mihova - the only Bulgarian performer for 10 years at the prestigious Rossini Opera Festival this year, having just recently returned from her participation in the Solemn Concert in the Great Hall of the Sorbonne.

After being selected from among many young singers of the Alberto Zeda Academy, this summer Mila Mihova made her debut at the Rossini Opera Festival at the Teatro Rossini - Pesaro in the role of Madama Cortese in the great Italian composer's Journey to Reims. On November 14, she sang in Rossini's Little Solemn Mass at the prestigious Le Grand Amphitheatre de la Sorbonne in Paris.

After her participation in the Festival of Opera and Ballet Art, the young soprano with a promising international career Mila Mihova and pianist Richard Barker will have a joint concert on 15 December at 19:00 at the Lumiere Lidl cinema. The concert, titled "Bisseri di bel canto", will include songs and arias by Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti.

It should be recalled that on 25 March 2016 the Stara Zagora audience applauded Mila Mihova in the role of Lucia di Lammermoor in Gaetano Donizetti's opera of the same name - a production with young opera singers - scholarship holders of the Darina Takova Foundation and the Stara Zagora State Opera.
