On Sunday, April 5 at 4 pm. State Opera - Stara Zagora will broadcast a 40-minute film with 17 stories from the 2015 and 2016 editions of FOBI.
They contain a fragment of a concert performance of the opera "Gergana" by Maestro Georgi Atanasov. With this title in 1925 the opera work in Stara Zagora was born. The new madrigal comedy "The Enchanted" by Bozidar Spasov of the Plovdiv Opera provokes with unconventional means of expression. Yavor Gardev's debut as an opera director in the Darina Takova Foundation's production of Puccini's The Swallow also arouses curiosity. The plans of the
famous Bulgarian theatre director include a production of Nabucco on the stage of the National Opera and Ballet - Skopje. Another debut, of the talented soprano Besa Lugici in the role of Lucia di Lammermoor - a production of the host theatre crowns the final retrospective of the 2015 festival edition.
Highlights of 2016 include the performance of opera prima Olga Romanko in Mascagni's Village Honour, as well as the Bulgarian premiere of Alfredo Casella's ballet Delvata, based on Luigi Pirandello's novella of the same name. Both productions are by the host theatre. "Hoffmann's Tales" by Offenbach of the Plovdiv Opera, staged by Ursula Horner, and the ballet "The Seasons" by the Ruse Opera, choreographed by the Romanian Pavel Rotaru, reflect the organisers' aspiration to make the Forum a meeting place for opera and ballet artists from the Balkan region. The concert "Music of Europe and the Balkans" is a culmination of these efforts. It featured unfamiliar examples from the musical traditions of Romania, Serbia and Kosovo. A fragment from Giuseppe Verdi's opera Il Trovatore, performed by singers with world-class careers - the soprano Tsvetelina Vassileva and the Romanian baritone Ionuc Pascu - was selected especially for the users of the Internet and social networks. Another name from the world stages, Italian bass Carlo Colombara made his debut at the FOBI in the role of Boris Godunov from Mussorgsky's folk music drama of the same name - a production of the State Opera - Varna.
