The flexible rhythm and colorful harmony in Puccini’s musical dramaturgy form the foundation of the production’s intense emotional impact. The dynamic action is enhanced by striking stage design and directorial solutions that make full use of stage technology—revolving stage, moving and rising platforms that allow seamless changes of setting.
The thematic lines of La Bohème always resonate with contemporary relevance. Youthful vitality, faith in goodness, and the impulse for change live within every new generation. The world of La Bohème is a world filled with emerging and professional artists, young creatives, and distinctive personalities.
Works by Toulouse-Lautrec, Paul Cézanne, Antoine Blanchard, and Édouard Cortès are organically integrated into the atmosphere of the production, illustrating Paris at the end of the 19th century.
“In every scene one senses a nostalgic spirit. It is a world of extraordinary happiness, where death arrives whenever it chooses. Puccini’s strength lies in his ability to make everyone relive their own life while sitting in the audience, or to suffer alone with his music within the span of two hours…,” shares the production’s designer, Cătălin Ionescu-Arbore.
